Dedicated to Truman P. Baldwin June 14, 1838 - June 16, 1907 It’s been quite at the old Baldwin School since the town abandoned it in June, 2000. No more children running around during recess, no bells ringing and no maintenance is being performed. This was the third school to stand on this site. The first was a 2-room schoolhouse built in 1854. The second an 8-room school built in 1883 which burned to the ground just before Christmas, 1906. After that disaster, the “new” Baldwin School was constructed. It was named after Truman Baldwin, longtime school teacher and administrator. Since then the question had been what to do with the old place. This is what it looks like today. A lot of former students (and teachers) will remember the happy times at Baldwin School but today, all is quite as the old school awaits its fate.

Here’s a look at the 1894 Town Hall on DeForest Street in Watertown, CT. It is one of the most important buildings in town architecturally, and it is in an accelerated state of deterioration. The scaffolding is there to protect pedestrians from falling pieces of slate from the roof. Colonial Revivial/Richardsonian Romanesque style, it was built at a cost of 500. Watertown, CT November 2011 - Buried here are the people who founded Watertown, laid out the roads, cleared the land, built the early homes, churches, etc. The decisions these people made affect the daily lives of everyone in town today. They were patriots, farmers, shop keepers, religious leaders, mill operators, and in the case of Titus Foote, and axe murder victim. There is a startling number of children buried here. This cemetery dates back to the 1740s. It has been cared for by the Daughters of the American Revolution since 1904. The cemetery is open to the public during daylight hours but extreme care must be taken when visiting to avoid physical contact with any of the headstones due to the fragile nature of the monuments.
